Jokowi to Form Task Force, Assists Kominfo Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will form a task force in the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) to strengthen Indonesia's information technology in the form of data sovereignty, e-commerce, the Internet of Things, and the implementation of Artificial Intelligence.

"We have a very limited time, less than a year and a half, so everything related to data sovereignty, AI, frequency, and satellite needs to be finalized and finished promptly," said President Jokowi at the Presidential Palace, in Jakarta on Monday, July 17, 2023.

Jokowi said that the most challenging homework for the Communication Minister and its Deputy is to implement proper Information and Communication of Technology (ICT) "The development of the world is very dependant on ICT, therefore, the ministry is supported by a Deputy Minister and our task force," said Jokowi.

Jokowi said that he will discuss the task force formation soon with the Kominfo Minister and Deputy Minister. Meanwhile, the newly-appointed Kominfo Minister Budi Arie Setiadi promised to swiftly execute President Jokowi's instruction to form a task force. "We will carry out the President's commands, moving at a fast pace," Budi said in the National Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Monday, July 17, 2023.

Budi, who previously served as the Deputy Minister of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration was officiated into his position by President Jokowi as a Kominfo Minister at the Presidential Palace today, Monday, July 17, 2023. He replaced former Minister Jonnhy G. Plate who was removed for his alleged involvement in the Base Transceiver Station 4G BAKTI corruption case.
