Erick Thohir Reports Tempo to Press Council over Podcast

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - SOE Minister Erick Thohir has reported Tempo Media to the Press Council today, July 13, over its podcast Tempo Bocor Alus Politik titled "Manuver Erick Thohir Lewat PSSI dan BUMN yang Tak Disukai PDIP" (Erick Thohir's Maneuver Through PSSI and SOE Disliked by PDIP).
The podcast is published on Tempo’s YouTube channel Tempodotco and a number of Tempo's social media accounts, including the podcast platform Spotify.
A Special Staff for SOE Minister, Nezar Patria, said Erick considers the content highly detrimental to him given that most of the content does not meet the principles of journalistic work and the Journalistic Code of Ethics. This is because they have not gone through verification and confirmation.
“According to Pak Erick, the content is not balanced and does not present him as a source, as a related party, to provide information in a balanced manner,” Nezar told Tempo today, July 13, 2023.
The Press Council’s chairperson for the complaints and enforcement unit, Yadi Hendriana, confirmed the SOE Minister’s report over Tempo’s podcast. “That’s surely a reasonable process. If you are not satisfied with journalistic work, report it to the Press Council,” Yadi said when contacted by Tempo today.
The Press Council chairperson Ninik Rahayu said that her side would examine the report and immediately invite Tempo for a response. Ninik also said her side will not involve Press Council member Arif Zulkifli who is the CEO of the Tempo Media Group.
Tempo Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Setri Yasra respects Minister Erick Thohir's report to the Press Council. He said Tempo respects the Press Council which carries out the mandate of Law No. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press.
“Because that's the step that should be taken, press disputes are resolved at the Press Council,” Setri Yasra said today, July 13, 2023. However, Setri could not speak further regarding this report because Tempo has not yet received the report or a copy of the report.
