TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said that Bali is still recording the most visits by foreign travelers compared to other provinces. International arrivals via Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport accounted for 45 percent of the country's total.
"The target is for Bali to receive 4.5 million out of a total of 8.5 million visits estimated this year," Sandiaga said at his office on Tuesday, July 11. "Surely, we must maintain Bali's status as a leading tourist destination."
As of May, Sandiaga said, more than 4 million foreign travelers have arrived in Indonesia, an increase of more than 312 percent. The minister is confident that the target to have 8.5 million foreign visitors can be achieved this year.
Bali's Tourism Office head, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, said that 2,390,585 foreign tourists visited Bali in the first half of 2023. Most of them are Australians, followed by Indians, USA citizens, Britons, Singaporeans, Chinese, Malaysians, South Koreans, Germans, and Russians.
Despite the prospective outlook so far, Tjok Bagus admits that there have been problems caused by bad-behaving tourists—many cases have gone viral on social media. He said that Bali's Tourism Office continues to coordinate with the Tourism Ministry and mitigate incidents through the Governance Task Force.
