MPR to Split Annual Session in Two Days This Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of Indonesia People's of Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Bambang Soesatyo said the assembly will hold its Annual Session of MPR RI 2023 in two separate days. The Session will not be subsequent to the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) and instead set to be held respectively on August 15 and 16, 2023.
On August 15, 2023, Bambang said, the agenda for the Annual Session is the performance report of all state institutions to the public, such as DPR RI, Indonesia's Audit Board, Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, and Judicial Commission. "The chairman of these state institutions will directly report to the public through the Annual Session of MPR RI," said Bambang when met after the Consultation Meeting of the Chairman of MPR RI and the Chairman of DPD RI, in Nusantara V Building, Senayan, Jakarta on Monday, July 10, 2023.
After the Annual Session is finished, on August 16, 2023, the Joint Session of DPR RI and DPD RI will commence. "On August 16, we will hear the President's report and speech, and the Joint Session of DPR RI and DPD RI," Bambang said.
The format of the two days Annual Session of MPR RI will also be different than the ones held during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Chairman of MPR also said that MPR RI and DPD RI have agreed to finalize their initiation to regulate the authorities and functions of MPR RI, DPR RI, and DPD RI in separate laws, differing from the present unification in Law No. 17 of 2014 concerning MD3. "The MPR Bill, DPD Bill, and DPR Bill have all been drafted. The next step is to amend MD3 Law," he said. In the meeting, he was joined by the Chairman of DPD RI La Nyalla Mattalitti and Co-Chairmen Nono Sampono, Mahyudin, and Sultan Baktiar Najamudin. Also present was Co-Chairmen of MPR RI Ahmad Basarah, Ahman Muzani, Sjarifudin Hasan, Yandri Susanto, and Arsul Sani.
