Jokowi Departs for Papua New Guinea Today after Australia Visit

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo proceeded with his state visit abroad to Papua New Guinea (PNG) today, July 5, 2023, after the three-day trip to Australia. He departed from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport at 07:20 local time to Port Moresby.

“Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Siswo Pramono and wife and Indonesian Defense Attaché for Australia Laksma TNI Anak Agung Oka Wirayudha and wife see off the departure of the President to Port Moresby,” as published in the release from the Presidential Secretariat’s Press, Media, and Information Bureau, on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

Australian Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully, Minister for Education Jason Clare, New South Wales Director Leanne Byrne, Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams, Secretary to New South Wales Governor Christopher Sullivan, and Secretary to Governor-General Paul Singer were also present to see off the Indonesian President and the entourage.

In PNG, Jokowi was scheduled to meet with PNG Governor-General Bob Dadae and hold a bilateral meeting with PNG Prime Minister James Marape. “This is a return visit to meet the invitation from PM James Marape,” the state head said.

He would also have business talks with entrepreneurs in PNG and launch Citilink’s maiden route of Denpasar-Port Moresby. “Australia and Papua New Guinea are our close neighbors, good friends, and strategic partners of Indonesia in the Pacific region,” he said.

During the state visit, Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjatain, State Secretary Pratikno, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Investment Minister or BKPM Head Bahlil Lahadalia, and Trade Minister Zulkfili Hasan.
