PDIP Denies Jokowi Will Support Prabowo in 2024 Presidential Election

TEMPO.CO, Padang - Ruling party PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto asserted that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is consistent in supporting Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election. Hasto made the statement after attending the West Sumatra PDIP Meeting in Padang.

“There is no statement that Bapak Jokowi chooses Prabowo as a presidential candidate. The news is not true,” Hasto told reporters in Padang.

Jokowi as the President would ensure that Indonesia's future leadership would run well. PDIP in the 3rd National Meeting (Rakernas) had also confirmed that Jokowi's leadership will be replaced by Ganjar Pranowo and that will be guarded.

“We, PDIP, have decided that what Pak Jokowi has done will be continued by Ganjar Pranowo,” he underlined.

Hasto also said that the current task of the PDIP management is to carry out the directives conveyed by Jokowi during the meeting. “This is Jokowi's capacity as a PDIP cadre,” he added.

PDIP opens the possibility for a coalition with Gerindra

He said PDIP welcomes possible coalitions with other parties. However, the other party is required to follow the decision to endorse Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election. “Political dynamics must be observed and considered based on what the people want,” Hasto said.

“PDIP open space for political parties who want to form a coalition, including Gerindra,” he said, adding that his side is still waiting and observing all the political dynamics which include names of vice presidential candidates for Ganjar Pranowo.
