TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government will distribute free tickets of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train (KCJB), especially for people residing near the Chinese-made bullet train tracks.
West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil announced this when visiting Sumedang Grand Mosque, West Java, on Friday, June 23, 2023. He added that he is still coordinating for the free ticket program which is planned to run from August 18 to October 2023.
“On how to get the ticket will later be arranged,” he said.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan had earlier announced the free ticket program. According to him, this follows President Joko Widodo or Jokowi's instructions so that people can experience the first fast train in Southeast Asia.
Luhut and Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi rode the train on the test run during which the maximum speed reached 385 kilometers per hour. He said the trip from Halim Station to Padalarang Station took about 30 minutes and to Tegalluar Station took 45 minutes.
He claimed that the trial run went well without any problems and that the journey was quite comfortable even at high speed.
The Transportation Ministry keeps monitoring the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train operation intensively with consultants from Europe and conducting a series of tests before issuing operating permits. Minister Budi Karya said it will be granted no later than October 1. “Maybe sooner on August 18.”
