TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo departed for West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) this morning, June 20, using the Indonesian Presidential Aircraft via the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta.
Upon landing at Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, Central Lombok, the President and the entourage continued the journey to West Sumbawa Regency by using the Indonesian Air Force Super Puma Helicopter.
“The President is scheduled to monitor the PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) smelter development project,” as stated in the press release from the Presidential Secretariat’s Press, Media, and Information Bureau on Tuesday.
Accompanying the state head during the visit are Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif, and SOE Minister Erick Thohir.
Based on Tempo's records, PT AMNT has a number of controversies. The company, which operates a 25,000-hectare gold and copper mine on Sumbawa Island is suspected of having committed a number of violations, such as unilateral layoffs, disposal of hazardous and toxic or B3 waste in the deep sea, and the sale of iron scraps.
On September 30, 2022, Secretary General of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Rida Mulyana said the ministry would deploy a team to NTB to investigate the problems.
