TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) found alleged illegal levy practices at the KPK's detention center.
The board chairperson Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean said that the findings are based on the investigation initiated by the board following news about the issue.
“It's true, the supervisory board found and exposed cases of the illegal levy at the KPK detention center. So the supervisory board has conveyed this to the KPK leaders to follow up by conducting an investigation,” Tumpak said in a press conference at the KPK building, on Monday, June 19, 2023.
He explained that based on the findings, the board will further investigate alleged ethical violations and criminal elements.
“This is already considered a crime as it violates Article 12 letter c, Law 31 of 1999 in conjunction with Law 20 of 2021. The supervisory board will, of course, examine ethical issues later,” said Tumpak.
In the same press conference, the board’s member Albertina Ho disclosed that the alleged illegal levy practice has a total value of Rp4 billion from December 2021 to March 2022.
“This is purely the finding of the supervisory board, there are no complaints. Illegal levies are made on detainees held at the KPK detention center,” Albertina said.
She claimed that these findings have been submitted to the KPK leaders on May 16, 2023, to be followed up regarding the criminal elements.
“We have also carried out clarifications. After all clarifications are complete, the results will surely be informed transparently,” Albertina concluded.
