House Speaker Puan Maharani: PRJ Drives Jakarta's Economy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani said Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ) or Jakarta Fair 2023 is a driving force for the economy of the capital city. The one-month-long festival is held annually to commemorate the anniversary of Jakarta which falls on June 22.
“It's nice to see people flocking here. This event will drive the economy. PRJ is also a place for MSMEs to sell their products,” she said in a statement received in Jakarta, Monday, June 19, 2023.
Puan made the statement after visiting Jakarta Fair 2023 at Jakarta International Expo or JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, June 18 evening. This year’s festival is held from June 14 until July 16.
Every year, thousands of people gather to celebrate this great festival that brings not only entertainment but also lucrative business opportunities.
In 2022, PRJ recorded a total transaction value of Rp7.3 trillion and 6.9 million visitors, as well as 2,500 participants and 1,500 tenants. Around 35 percent of the tenants were MSMEs.
Puan Maharani said PRJ, which is the biggest and longest-running event in Southeast Asia, is the pride of the Indonesian people, especially Jakarta residents.
“Hopefully I have the opportunity to return here every year. The whole community and I hope that this event can be held every year,” Puan Maharani said.
