Jakarta Tops List of Polluted Cities in The World: IQAir

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta is named the most polluted city in the world based on the data of Swiss air quality technology company IQ Air at 10:14 Jakarta time, June 14, 2023. The data showed the city’s air quality index score of 157.

An AQI value of 0-50 represents good air quality, 51-100 represents moderate air quality, 101-150 means unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups, 151-200, 201-300 means very unhealthy air quality, and an AQI value over 300 means hazardous air quality.

On this basis, Jakarta is apparently in the unhealthy category.

Poor air quality is a global issue that may cause serious impacts on human health and the environment. A lot of cities around the world face the challenge of dealing with air pollution that goes beyond safe limits.

Apart from Jakarta, a number of cities with the worst air quality include Shanghai, China, whose air quality index is only one point below Jakarta at 156, Wuhan with an air quality index of 134, New Delhi, India with an air quality index of 104, and Karachi, Pakistan with an air quality index of 95.

Other polluted cities included in the IQAir list are Incheon of South Korea with an air quality index of 126, Santiago, Chile (125), Kuwait City (124), Doha, Qatar (92), and Sarajevo, Bosnia (91).
