Fadil Imran Says Singaporeans Fear of Committing Crime Due to Police Patrol

15 June 2023 11:57 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Police’s Head of the Security Maintenance Agency, Commissioner General Mohammad Fadil Imran, appreciated how Singapore police conduct security patrol so that the people there refrain from committing a crime.

“People [in Singapore] are afraid to commit crimes because the police are always on patrol,” Fadil said when leading a morning briefing at Jakarta Metro Jaya Police HQ on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

He thus wished Indonesian people can easily find the police on the streets or public places. The patrolling officers are also expected to be able to educate and suppress opportunities for individuals to commit crimes.

Indonesia, Fadil acknowledged, has its own dynamic in security and public order disturbances. Patrols with two or four-wheeled vehicles are considered ineffective without a clear handling concept.

“Then we will carry out patrols under one name: Patroli Perintis Presisi. [This aims at further] establishing a good image [of the police] throughout Indonesia,” he remarked.

This patrol team applies to all regional units, so there will no longer be Badik Team, Viper Team, Raimas Backbone Team, Jaguar Team, Kobra Team, and others.

Police patrols are in the public spotlight

The teams often patrolling the streets in their respective unit areas are recently under the public spotlight as they often deal with various security and public order issues.

The new patrol team, however, will address similar issues, such as illegal street racing, brawls, and others. “Because our patrols should have a function of prevention, not prosecution,” he added.

Fadil Imran also encouraged the police to work based on valid data in dealing with problems in society and establish communication with stakeholders and other police units.
