TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that building Indonesia’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem will be a long-winded project that is not limited to one presidential term.
“We must see this electric vehicle development as one whole ecosystem,” said the coordinating minister on Monday, June 12, 2023. “We must govern this to be as efficient as possible. That’s what’s important, growth. And I assert again that this cannot be completed within one presidential term,” he added.
Luhut then elaborated that EV ecosystem development must be done holistically and sustainably which requires each and every government to maintain the direction of the industry’s development.
Luhut’s statement came as he attended the launch of the Battery Asset Management Services (BAMS) prototype which comes in partnership with the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) along with a two-wheeled electric consortium.
“What’s important is that this corridor must be nurtured together. Don’t just dream but we must commit to changes in every aspect,” said Luhut Pandjaitan who reasserted the importance of developing the supporting ecosystem surrounding the sustainability of EVs.
One of the major breakthroughs in domestic electric vehicle development is the investment in a new aluminum industry in East Java. As of current, Indonesia aims to achieve a 10 percent EV population by 2030.
