NTB to Build First Renewable Energy Company in Indonesia

30 May 2023 09:46 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Mataram - West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province is set to establish a company engaging in the renewable energy sector. The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction project will take place on August 17, 2023, which coincides with Indonesia's Independence Day. Energy firm PT Kaltimex Energy will lay the first stone together with Japan’s PT Mitsui Indonesia as the investor.

NTB Governor Zulkieflimansyah explained that the establishment of this company is the by-product of efforts of the provincial government which targets net zero emissions in 2050. This will also be the first green energy firm in Indonesia.

“The struggle has finally paid off. God willing, Mitsui from Japan and partners will lay the first stone for the development of renewable energy in NTB in mid-August,” Zulkieflimansyah said while meeting potential investors in his office, Monday, May 29, 2023.

This was confirmed after receiving a visit from PT Kaltimex Energy and PT Mitsui Indonesia regarding further discussion of the eco-system project timeline from the development stages of the compressed Biogas (BioCNG) plant construction project in Lombok.

Head of the NTB Industry Agency Nuryanti explained that investors would cooperate with regional-owned PT Gerbang NTB Emas (GNE).

The renewable energy company will produce gas and briquettes from processed agricultural and forestry waste in NTB. The production site will be located at the Kebon Kongok landfill, West Lombok. “Zero waste is our endeavor to prepare sustainable raw materials,” Nuryanti said.
