TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD confirmed that there was no politicization of the law regarding the determination of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Minister Johnny G. Plate as a suspect in the alleged corruption case.
“I have made sure there is no politicization of the law because I followed this case from the beginning,” Mahfud said when met at Jakarta Bidakara Hotel, on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
He ensured that the case was not related to political parties and was purely legal action. On this basis, he asked all parties to think positively.
“Let's just think positively. This does not lead to a party issue, but an alleged criminal act of corruption which can later be assessed openly in court,” Mahfud said.
Mahfud also said that he had confirmed to the Attorney General's Office that the determination of Johnny as a suspect was not related to political intervention or maneuvers.
“When two pieces of evidence have been fulfilled, the status will be indeed upgraded to suspect. Because if the evidence is complete and [he] is named a suspect due to reasons [of maintaining] political conditions, that will be wrong,” he remarked.
The infrastructure projects of the 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) under the Kominfo Ministry were allegedly stalled. The Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) then conducted an inspection and discovered corruption acts involving the Kominfo Minister.
Johnny G. Plate was named a suspect in the alleged corruption case in the BAKTI BTS project for the 2020-2022 period on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. The state losses from this case reportedly reached Rp8.32 trillion.
