AGO Searches Customs Office in Gold Import Corruption Investigation

15 May 2023 23:40 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) claimed that it had searched the office of the Finance Ministry's Directorate General of Customs in an investigation into the alleged corruption of imported gold commodities. A practice that is believed to have lasted from 2010 to 2022.

AGO's Director of Investigation Kuntadi announced that it has opened an investigation into the gold corruption case. However, he was unable to reveal the details of the investigation as it is an ongoing case.

“I apologize in advance as I can yet elaborate on the technicality of the investigation. However, in general, there were gold imports that were allegedly not treated properly which caused losses to the country’s finances,” Kuntadi explained on Monday, May 15, 2023.

On a separate occasion, the Attorney General's Office's Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) Head Ketut Sumedana confirmed that investigators from the Adhyaksa Corps also searched the Directorate General of Customs Office.

On Friday, May 12, the AGO announced that it was investigating alleged corruption in gold commodity management. Ketut Sumedana said the investigation began with the issuance of an Investigation Order Number: Prin-14/F.2/Fd.2/05/2023 dated May 10, 2023.
