TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir on Tuesday voiced his intent to unify SOEs pension fund management by the end of this month, which is a consolidation attempt in improving transparency and professionalism.
He expressed his belief in a statement that a more professional management system will narrow the room for people to commit corruption, state-owned news agency Antara reported.
“The aim is by the end of this month, the management of pension funds will become unified,” the Minister wrote in a statement on May 9. “The funds will be managed by experts in the field with accountable investments and transparency. There will no longer be stories of pension funds being corrupted.”
Erick Thohir also expressed his utmost support for the transformation, including the law enforcement process as he emphasized his commitment in implementing clean and professional governance of such funds.
He said that the cooperation between the SOEs Ministry and a number of law enforcement bodies, one of which is the Attorney General's Office (AGO), should serve as clear evidence of upholding the commitment to enacting a ‘clean-up’ within the SOEs realm. The problem of ill-managed pension funds yet again came to light in the case incriminating Pelindo.
