TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is pushing ASEAN members to establish a collective pandemic fund that will improve the response of state actors in facing future pandemics. This will be one of the issues discussed in the ASEAN Summit that is held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said such a fund can help spark better prevention, preparedness, and responses to a pandemic situation.
“We intend to concentrate on the pandemic fund. Our colleagues in ASEAN have made a proposal that will be submitted,” said the Health Minister in visiting the Komodo General Hospital, on May 8.
In his statement, the world has proven to be unprepared for the Covid-19 pandemic as there was a lack of reliable health architecture to manage the pandemic. For this reason, all countries must ensure the resilience of the international community in the face of the upcoming pandemic.
The pandemic fund will provide financing for the prevention, preparedness, and response (PPR) capacity of the upcoming pandemic, asserting the importance of cooperation between finance and health.
