TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of the 2024 General Elections, a number of public figures have tried their luck at political careers, including retired Indonesian National Police or Polri officers. To navigate the practical political arena, former Polri officials have chosen to join a political party.

As regulations only prohibit active police officers from taking part in practical politics, retired police officers are able to join political parties. Most recently, Iwan Bule officially joined Gerindra. Quoting various sources, the following are a number of retired police officers who have chosen to join political parties.

Susno Duadji (PKB), former Head of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Kabareskrim Polri) from October 2008 to November 2009. Susno also served as head of several Resort Police, including North Maluku, Madiun, Malang, and West Java (pustakaarsip.kamparkab.go.id). In March 2011, Susno was found guilty in the corruption case against PT Salmah Arowana Lestari and the corruption in the West Java Pilkada security fund. Susno was released after serving 3.5 years in prison.

Anang Iskandar (Perindo), former Criminal Investigation head who also served as South Denpasar Police Chief, Kuta Bali Police Chief, Blitar Police Chief, Kediri Police Chief, Jambi Regional Police Chief, to Head of Police Kabareskrim (tnh.sch.id). Anang also served as head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

Adnas (PPP),former Gorontalo Police chief. Positions served include Kapolda Gorontalo, Main Policy Analyst in the field of Sabhara Polri to Level I Main Police Lecturer Sespim Lemdiklat Polri (p2k.stekom.ac.id).

Fakhrizal (PDIP), former West Sumatra Police Chief. Former jobs include the Central Kalimantan Regional Police Chief and the West Sumatra Regional Police Chief. While still serving as West Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Fakhrizal reaped controversy for declaring his candidacy for governor of West Sumatra (p2k.stekom.ac.id).

Mochamad Iriawan or Iwan Bule (Gerindra), former Head of the Propam Division. Iwan Bule's last position with the Polri was as the main secretary of the National Defense Institute. He also had served as the Head of the Professional and Security Division of the National Police and was a former head of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) (p2k.stekom.ac.id).
