TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry is cooperating with Plasticpay and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) to reduce plastic bottle waste in Bali, according to Marine Spatial Management Director General Victor Gustaaf Manoppo's statement issued on Sunday, April 30, 2023.

As part of the cooperation, the ministry has introduced plastic bottle recycling technology in the form of a vending machine or Reserve Vending Machine (RVM) to the residents.

One of the features offered by the RVM is the exchange of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles for points within the Plasticpay application.

"The goal is to promote the use of PET plastic bottles that are more eco-friendly by converting them into points that can be utilized by users," he explained.

Plastic waste recycling is one of the priority programs implemented by the ministry in the development of the blue economy, specifically through the plastic waste in the sea cleanup agenda, and through the participation movement of fishermen.

A single RVM unit located at the front of the main entrance of the Denpasar Shoreline and Marine Resources Management Center (BPSPL) office can be accessed by the general public.

Manoppo expects that the provision of the RVM to recycle plastic waste can raise people's awareness, especially in sorting and utilizing plastic waste wisely.

The existence of RVM is also expected to provide economic benefits for the people involved in plastic waste management.

He informed that, in addition to Bali, the ministry will expand this cooperation to Technical Acting Units (UPTs) spread across Indonesia.

He said that this is being done to educate people more on the importance of eco-friendly plastic waste management.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Plasticpay Teknologi, Daurulang Suhendra Setiadi, explained that, within this cooperation, Plasticpay provides an application that RVM users can utilize to obtain points for every PET plastic bottle they deposit.
