TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas through his latest circular has permitted the activity of takbir in public upon celebrating the eve of Eid al-Fitr. This coincides with the rising number of Covid-19 cases.
Takbir in its definitions is an activity where Muslims recite the phrase praising God in Allahuakbar, or God is Greatest, through the night until the following day of Eid al-Fitr.
“It must be done only by adhering to rules of local governments, preserving public order, and highly regarding values of tolerance,” the Ministry’s press statement reads on April 20.
Despite allowing a more relaxed crowd control policy amid existing covid cases, he reminds people to celebrate the festival eve of Eid under the Religious Affairs Ministry’s circular issued in 2022 overseeing the use of loudspeakers in Mosques.
Furthermore, in the Circular Letter, Minister Yaqut also allowed Eid prayers to be held in mosques, prayer rooms, and public open fields. But still, warns the public to maintain health protocols.
"Appealed that the material for the Eid al-Fitr sermon upholds ukhuwah Islamiyah, which prioritizes the values of tolerance, national unity, and integrity, and sermons shall not discuss practical politics," said Yaqut.
