TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pollster Indikator Politik Indonesia has released its latest survey report which covers a plethora of issues, one of them being President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s approval rating, which has increased to 75.5 percent.
This position is an upturn compared to the March report at 75 percent. Out of the four past surveys done by Indikator Politik Indonesia, the latest one is the highest approval rate the President obtained with economic factors believed to contribute the most.
“Especially the inflation,” said the pollster's executive director Burhanuddin Muhtadi in his presentation on April 19.
Despite entering the Eid al-Fitr holiday season – marked by an extensive national collective leave – the prices of staple goods remain under control. "That helps the public perception of the president's work, this is not too different from other survey institutions," said Burhanuddin.
Last April, for example, the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) released its version of Jokowi’s approval rating reaching 76.8 percent. Long before that, the Charta Politika survey released a similar poll with Jokowi logging a 69.5 percent approval rate in November 2022.
Furthermore, the Indikator Politik Indonesia survey actually showed that the majority of respondents, or 33.1, considered the country’s economic situation to be in a bad state. Meanwhile, those who considered the economy to be in good condition reached 26.6 percent. "So the net is negative," said Burhanuddin.
The negative economic perception has steadily reduced compared to March 2023 which reached 36.9 percent. He noted that this could be due to a recovering public perception that is related to post-pandemic situations.
Meanwhile, from a legal standpoint, 29.8 respondents consider the country to be in good condition and 30.6 percent considered it to be less favorable. Respondents' perceptions of poor legal conditions also increased compared to March 2023 which reached 33.6 percent.
The survey by the pollster was held between April 8-13 involving samples that are claimed to represent 83 percent of the national population. A total of 1,212 respondents were reached by the pollster using the random digit dialing (RDD) method with a claimed margin of error of 2.9 percent and a 95 percent level of confidence.
