TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - There has been a lot of news about fake QRIS barcodes placed on donation boxes of a number of mosques in Jakarta. Among them are the Nurul Iman Mosque Blok M Square, the Al Azhar Mosque in Kebayoran Baru Center, even the Istiqlal Mosque.
Security cameras captured the footage of a man replacing the QRIS barcode stickers on the mosques' donation boxes with a fake one, fooling the mosque congregation into thinking they were making a donation, when instead their money was sent to the scammers.
The police asked people to re-confirm their digital donations to the Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM). This is to avoid fraud, as was done by a man with the initials IML in South Jakarta.
Met in Jakarta on Tuesday, South Jakarta Metro Police chief, Sr. Comr. Ade Ary Syam Indradi said that the police are processing a report from a victim of IML's scam. The police are still conducting an investigation.
The South Jakarta Police's head of Criminal Division, Comr. Irwandhy Idrus, said that this type of scam has been discovered in several places of worship. "For now there are indications that there are more than one location; Kebayoran Lama, Pancoran, Pondok Indah and Kalibata," Irwandhy said, April 11.
The South Jakarta Metro Police urges people who need police assistance to contact Hallo Polisi by dialing 110.
