Gojek Confirms No Eid Allowance for Drivers But Incentives

6 April 2023 07:24 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian super app Gojek confirmed that it did not allocate Eid holiday allowances (THR) for drivers due to the partnership relationship between them. The on-demand platform which is part of the GoTo group, however, provides more sustainable incentives.

“We are focused on how to lessen our partners' operational burdens. For example, frequent phone credit cost,” said Gojek’s Head of Region and External Affairs Gede Manggala in his office, Wednesday, April 5.

According to applicable regulations, giving THR to driver-partners is not mandatory for online motorcycle taxis or online ojek applicators, such as Gojek and Grab.

Meanwhile, specifically for holidays, Gede explained that his side prepares incentives for driver-partners who keep taking orders. “So it is something useful for partners and can be done continuously,” he added.

In general, the incentive program is packaged in the Gojek Swadaya program through which the company provides phone credit relief, discount vouchers for vehicle maintenance, affordable price of groceries, savings and insurance programs, affordable mortgages, and scholarships for the sons and daughters of driver partners.

Gede said the program, which has been implemented since 2016, is aimed at improving the welfare of driver-partners. A number of companies are also involved and become partners in the Gojek Swadaya program.

“The welfare of driver partners is Gojek's main key in continuing to provide maximum economic impact in Indonesia,” Gede remarked.

Previously, the case of online ojek drivers not receiving THR was voiced by the Indonesian Transport Workers Union (SPAI).

The SPAI head Lily Pujiati disagrees that drivers did not get THR as she argued that the applicator's relationship with them could be counted as a working relationship. “So orders and wages should be in accordance with Labor Law Number 13 of 2003,” said Lily in a written statement, Tuesday, April 4.
