Depok Metro Police Anticipates Food Hoarding as Ramadhan Draws Near

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Depok Metro Police Great Commissioner Ahmad Fuadi, saod that the Police, in cooperation with the government, will be assembling a Task Force to monitor prices of food in the market.
Ahmad hoped that there will be no party who tried to take advantage by increasing prices of food as Ramadan draws near.
"We are trying to anticipate hoarding, don't let certain people or businesses hoard [foods] and make profits later," Ahmad said during a field inspection at the Cisalak Market on Friday, March 17, 2023.
Ahmad asserted that if there are reports on suspected hoarding, he will ordered his personnel to take firm action. "Don't let anyone took chances," Ahmad said.
Currently, the Depok Metro Police is yet to discover any indication of food hoarding and food are still available on the market.
"We will conduct direct inspection, if there are certain goods missing from the market, then there is an indication [of hoarding]," Ahmad said.
Ahmad also reminded market vendors not to commit fraudulent actions to reap profits, such as mixing beef with other meat. "We take anticipation measures, we reminded [street vendors], if there are indications, we will take action," Ahmad said.
