TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three ships belonging to State-owned shipping company PT Pelni (Persero) are docking at Murhum Port, Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi. The boats are there to undergo treatment in preparation for this year's Idul Fitri sea transport.
Andi Ramdan, executive director of Pelni's Baubau Branch, said the three ships were KM. Tilong Kabila, KM Lambelu and KM Dobonsolo.
"We try to make all ships operate during the fasting month until the end of Eid. That means 15 days before and 15 days after Eid. We will prepare all ships to operate, no more docking," he said in Baubau, Friday, February 24.
He said that there are 11 Pelni ships serving passengers at the Murhum Baubau port, three of which are now docking.
The three ships currently in docking will resume operations and fare their sea routes before the start of Ramadan. A docking period usually lasts two weeks to a month.
Andi Ramdan asked passengers to be patient waiting for the completion of the maintenance of the three ships, because the docking aims to make the ships seaworthy, as stipulated by international law.
"If the boats are not seaworthy, the Harbormaster of the Transportation Ministry will not give permission to sail," he said.
