TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy of prevention and monitoring, Pahala Nainggolan, on Thursday said the antigraft agency is suspicious of the wealth of Rafael Alun Trisambodo, the Head of the General Section of the Directorate General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, South Jakarta Regional Office II.
KPK believes that the wealth of the tax office official does not align with Rafael’s position in the directorate general as the monthly wage of the tax official should not reach a total of over Rp50 billion.
“This case involves the tax official [where] his profile does not match his personal wealth,” said Nainggolan on February 23. “This seems like it doesn’t match.”
Rafael Alun was dragged into the public spotlight after his son Mario Dandy Satriyo went viral on social media platforms as he was incriminated in an alleged physical assault that caused the victim to sustain severe injuries.
Mario currently has been named by police as a suspect in the physical assault against Jonathan Latumahina – who had to undergo intense treatment at a hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Rafael Alun's wealth is barely below the Minister of Finance
Citing data from KPK's Wealth Report (LHKPN), Rafael is recorded as having assets of Rp56 billion, with most of it (Rp51 billion) dominated by property ownership spread across a number of cities. His wealth is only slightly adrift from the wealth of the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, which amounts to a total of Rp58 billion.
According to Pahala, there is actually no legal prohibition against any state officials from having an abundance of wealth. "If indeed his father was wealthy and he inherited a large amount of money. Well that would not be a problem," said the KPK official.
For this reason, Pahala said he had ordered the summons for Rafael to clarify his assets and present him with an opportunity to prove the legality of his assets.
