TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo held a meeting this morning, February 20, with the management of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), including chief Erick Thohir, deputy chiefs, and executive committee members.
“The president will give orders,” said PSSI deputy chief who is also Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali at Jakarta State Palace, Monday, February 20, 2023.
The Extraordinary Congress of PSSI held on Thursday, February 16, 2023, tapped SOE Minister Erick Thohir as the general chief and Zainudin Amali and Ratu Tisha as deputy chief.
After registering as a candidate, Amali emphasized that he had considered carefully when advancing to the election market and had asked permission from Jokowi.
If elected, Amali claimed he would report again to the President and mulled over resigning from his position as minister as he acknowledged that there would be a conflict of interest.
“There is indeed no obligation to resign. But ethically, I am the minister who oversees many sports. Now I have to take care of one. Even though I'm sure I can, that's unethical,” said Amali to Tempo on Friday, February 10, 2023.
When asked again about the resignation plan, Amali said he had to report it first to the state head because he could not make such a decision.
Meanwhile, Jokowi stated that there would be no problem if his cabinet ministers held multiple positions as ministers and PSSI administrators. “The most important thing is they can manage the time,” he said when attending the 50th Anniversary of the United Development Party (PPP) at ICE BSD, Banten, Friday, February 17, 2023.
