TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2023 Bau Nyale Festival starts today, February 10, in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The festival, which is rooted in the Nyale tradition of the Sasak tribe, is estimated to attract 25,000 visitors to Lombok during the two-day event.
West Nusa Tenggara's Tourism Office head, Jamaluddin Malady, said the peak of the 2023 Pesona Bau Nyale Festival will take place on Friday and Saturday the 10th and 11th of February. The events will be centered in two places, Seger Beach and Tanjung Aan Beach at the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
"As for the Bau Nyale activities, more will be held at Seger Beach because it is believed that a lot of Nyale will come out there on Saturday," he said, Thursday, February 9.
According to Jamaluddin, there will be more visitors this year because the Covid-related community restrictions or PPKM have been lifted. Moreover, he said, the West Nusa Tenggara Governor has appealed to all regional apparatus organizations to follow the Bau Nyale tradition.
The Bau Nyale Festival is expected to generate a favorable economic impact, especially for MSMEs in the area.
