TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said the visit of the 2023 ASEAN Tourism Forum delegates to Borobudur Temple was part of the trial run of the educational tour package and temple conservation being prepared by the government.
Delegates who were representatives of ASEAN countries and institutions had the opportunity to climb to the top of the world’s largest Buddhist temple.
“I am very grateful that the trial run of the education and conservation tour package has been carried out. We brought around 100 delegates and state guests to the top of the temple,” said Sandiaga in his statement, Sunday, February 5, 2023.
According to him, the tour participants paid serious attention to the relief panels of the temple which told the daily life of the people in the 8th to 10th centuries that were still very relevant in today’s era.
The stories in the reliefs were also used as inspiration in the formation of the Borobudur Trail of Civilization (BToC) travel package which was then divided into nine thematic tourist routes.
“They all climbed to the top and were amazed by the explanations given by the competent tour guides,” said Sandiaga.
During the tour, the delegates wore Upanat, special sandals prepared for climbing the temple which is made of woven pandan leaves. This MSME product was aimed at preventing damage to the stones.
The tour package of the seven wonders of the world was planned to be charged around Rp500,000 for foreign tourists and Rp100,000 for domestic tourists.
Sandiaga Uno also said the tour package will be launched by PT Taman Wisata Candi as the manager. “We have tested it and provided feedback that it is good to be reopened. We fully leave it to TWC for the launching date,” he said.
