Jakarta Claims Electronic Road Pricing Aimed at Easing Congestion

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Agency asserted that the Electronic Traffic Control (PL2SE) or Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) policy is one of the efforts to break down congestion and is a push strategy to reduce the use of private vehicles.

“The draft of the regional regulation or Raperda on PL2SE will not only regulate ERP enactment but is also expected to control traffic and public transportation in Jakarta electronically,” said Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

The plans, however, are still focused on completing the regulations because it has been included in the Formation of Regional Regulation Program for 2022 and 2023.

“The PL2SE or ERP policy is still being discussed with the DPRD (Regional Legislative Council). After the legal aspects are completed, PL2SE can be then implemented,” he added.

Syafrin also said tariffs, road sections, types of vehicles, and others are substances to be stipulated in the regulation. In 2022, discussions have been held with Bapemperda (Regional Regulation Formation Agency) in the form of hearings along with stakeholders and the public.

Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono confirmed on Wednesday, January 11, that the ERP tariff would be discussed with the central government, and that the regulation was expected to complete this year.

Earlier, Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo revealed that his side proposed the tariff for the Electronic Road Pricing in the range of Rp5,000 to Rp19,000, depending on the category and the type of vehicles.
