Puan Maharani Says Megawati May Reveal PDIP Presidential Candidate Soon

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) executive Puan Maharani stated that the party chair Megawati Soekarnoputri had prepared a surprise at the celebration of the PDIP 50th anniversary which will be held tomorrow, January 10, 2023. According to her, it could be an announcement of presidential and vice presidential candidates to be endorsed by the party.

Puan said Megawati will deliver a speech at the event, and no one knows what it will be about. According to her, the latter’s speech is from her notes, thoughts, and hearts.

“It’s possible that there will be a sudden surprise about the PDIP’s candidates for president or vice president tomorrow,” said Puan at the Paragon Hotel, West Jakarta, Monday, January 9, 2023.

Previously, when speaking at the Technical Guidance for Regional Legislative Council or DPRD Members from PDIP, Puan said Megawati already pocketed names for the 2024 presidential elections. 

Thus, the House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker asked the cadres to focus on carrying out duties at the grassroots and quietly wait for the date. Cadres should focus on winning the party, she added, instead of becoming political observers such as by commenting on other figures.

Puan Maharani reminded PDIP cadres again that the determination of presidential candidates is entirely in the hands of Megawati. Cadres were then expected to wait for the fifth Indonesian president to reveal her decision.
