TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro Jaya Police’s Traffic Directorate has once again imposed manual traffic ticketing in the capital. The move is aimed at prosecuting disobedient drivers who outsmarted police to avoid e-ticketing.
The Police's Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Latif Usman confirmed this. However, manual ticketing is only applied to certain types of violations.
“Manual ticketing applies to those who falsify and remove the license plates, commit illegal racing, and use brong [non-standard and noisy] exhausts," Latif explained, as quoted from the police’s webpage korlantas.polri.go.id.
Here are the sanctions for the three violations:
- Forging and not installing the vehicle’s license plate number
Based on Article 263 in conjunction with Article 266 of the Criminal Code, forgery of license plates can be subject to 6 to 7 years imprisonment. Meanwhile, Article 288 (1) of the Traffic and Land Transportation (LLAJ) Law states that a driver who does not have a license plate will be subject to imprisonment for a maximum of 2 months or a maximum fine of Rp500,000.
- Illegal racing
Based on Article 297 of Law 22 of 2009, illegal racing on public streets is punishable by a maximum of 1 year behind bars or a fine of up to Rp3 million.
In Article 274 (1), illegal racing that causes damage or disrupts the function of roads is punishable by imprisonment for a maximum of 1 year or a maximum fine of Rp24 million.
- Using non-standard exhaust
Using a non-standard exhaust and causing noise can be jailed for a maximum of one month or a fine of up to Rp250,000. This action refers to Article 285 (1) in conjunction with Article 106 (3) of Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Land Transportation (LLAJ).
