TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono responded to an online petition calling for WFH or work from home due to traffic jams and pollution in the city which has gained 18,000 signatures as of Thursday afternoon, January 5, 2023.
The petition asking for the city administration to review the 100-percent WFO policy was submitted by a netizen on change.org two months ago.
Heru handed over the WFH and WFO policy to employers in anticipation of extreme weather. “Each [employer or institution] can decide their own WFH policy,” he said in Jakarta, Thursday.
The city administration did not have a specific regulation concerning WFH and WFO in the capital. Moreover, the central government already revoked the public mobility restrictions or PPKM, which include the policy on remote working.
Heru said the city only issued recommendations based on weather information announced by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
“Each office affected [by the BMKG’s weather forecast], such as those in Kapten Tendean, Buncit areas, could take their own policies,” Heru recalled.
On December 27, Heru issued a WFH recommendation to prevent long traffic jams during floods due to extreme weather. Heru handed over the policy to each private company. The policy also applied to the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) within the Jakarta Government.
Heru said the policy was enforced to prevent losses caused by potential extreme weather which was predicted to hit Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek on December 28, 2022.
