Workers Union Deems Job Creation Perppu Worse than the Law

5 January 2023 15:08 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe act of a million workers alliance issued a statement in response to the government’s regulation in lieu of law or Perppu on job creation. Chairman of the Indonesian Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI) Muh Jumhur Hidayat said his side would not remain silent about the law ratification.

“We really want to show our millions of members throughout Indonesia that their leaders are not sitting idly by. Many are still on vacation, but we hear that there is a Perppu which is clearly worse than the Job Creation Law, which we have declared really bad compared to the previous law,” said Jumhur to journalists in front of the Parliament Building, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Thursday, January 5, 2023.

According to him, the alliance is committed to urging the revocation of the Perppu, and even the Omnibus Law to ensure workers' welfare.

“This is not a rally, but rather a statement issuance. We are deliberately here in front of the DPR (House of Representatives) Building to show that it has been insulted by the executive,” said Jumhur.

He argued that the authority of the legislative body in making laws has been disregarded by the executive due to the issuance of the Perppu No. 2 of 2022 concerning job creation.

“So, we are not silent, we are fighting. People coming here are the general chairmen, not the mass rally. Hopefully, we will stage an action later,” said Jumhur.

He also said that his side demanded the government return to the previous law or at least execute the Constitutional Court’s ruling; amend the job creation law by involving all stakeholders.
