TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government is designing a third space development concept in the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) area in Kalibiru with a total area of 3.2 kilometers, North Jakarta Mayor Ali Maulana Hakim has reported.
“We will arrange the area which will function as public facilities that can be enjoyed by the people,” said Ali in a statement, Wednesday, January 4, 2022.
The concept is designed in tandem with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. This plan, he added, is a follow-up to the completion of the construction of the NCICD in Kalibiru of Cilincing, North Jakarta.
The beach embankment will stretch from Plaza Kalibaru to the Crematorium Retention Pool. Based on the layout of the third space development plan, there will be a number of public facilities including parks, mini soccer fields, volleyball courts, children's playgrounds, and tourist destinations.
Ali appealed to residents not to use the area for personal gain. The Jakarta Regional Asset Management Agency (BPAD) will install fences and signs around the coastal embankment. “Please understand that we will use this location for the common good,” he said.
Ferdinanto, the head of the NCICD Work Unit from the PUPR Ministry, explained that the project will not only tackle rising sea levels and flooding but also improves the area with the presence of a third space. “That's why a number of facilities will be provided built for the community,” he added.
The project consists of the construction of a giant sea wall and a coastal dike. At present, the city administration and the central government are finalizing the concept of the giant sea wall.
Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono said the NCICD could prevent tidal flooding from entering the capital. “If we want Jakarta to be safe for the next 100 years, we must build a giant sea wall and a coastal embankment,” he said at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
