TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government announced that the Bantargebang Landfill (TPST) landfill mining and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) plant facilities will be operable in early 2023.
Through its Instagram account @dkijakarta, the provincial government stated on Monday, December 26, 2022, that "The Bantargebang TPST is now equipped with those facilities and will be operable in 2023."
The added facilities will enable the landfill to manage up to 1,000 tons of older waste from the non-active landfill zone each day along with 1,000 new waste from Jakarta. Meanwhile the RDF facility will process around 700 to 750 tons of waste into refuse-derived fuel.
The facilities was initially constructed on February 17, 2022, and is currently already commissioned to simulate real-world performance and transform waste into something with economic value and more environmentally friendly.
The Jakarta Environmental Agency Head Asep Kuswanto once said that the agency expects the added trash-management facilities will not restrict the number of waste sent from Jakarta.
Asep at the time said he expects Bantargebang’s RDF plant will be commercially operable in January of 2023.
