Puan Maharani Wishes Merry Christmas, Asks Society to Continue Fostering Inter-Religious Tolerance

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, wished all Christians a Merry Christmas. She hopes that Christmas Day can bring peace, especially for people who celebrate it.
"To all Christians in Indonesia, may you have a happy Christmas in 2022. May the spirit of Christmas be a moment for us to maintain brotherhood," said Puan in her statement, Sunday, December 25, 2022.
Puan also asked the public to continue to foster tolerance between religions. Moreover, she said, Indonesia is currently preparing to enter the Covid-19 endemic thanks to the cooperation of all the people.
"We should be grateful that Christmas this year can be celebrated with Covid-19 conditions which are much better so that Christians can carry out worship more solemnly in church and gather with family," she said.
The chairman of the DPP of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) hopes that security can be maintained during the Christmas celebrations. Therefore, she asked the Indonesian National Army (TNI) and the Indonesian Police to guarantee comfort and safety for Christians when celebrating Christmas.
"Thank you to the officers, volunteers, and all parties who have contributed to ensuring that our brothers and sisters can celebrate Christmas comfortably and calmly," she said.
Approaching the turn of the year, Puan also wished all residents a happy new year 2023. She asked the community to learn lessons from this year's experience in overcoming various challenges in the future.
"To all Indonesian people, welcome the new year 2023 with joy. Entering the post-Covid-19 pandemic, let's start a new year with new energy," she said.
