TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo stated that the Ciawi Dam and Sukamahi Dam in Bogor Regency will significantly reduce Jakarta floods.
"These two dams are Ciawi and Sukamahi dry dams. We hope they will reduce flood in Jakarta by approximately 30.6 percent," said the President after the inauguration of both dams on Friday, December 23, 2022.
Jokowi explained that the Ciawi Dam and Sukamahi Dam can lessen Bogor's water runoff to Jakarta from 464 million cubic meters to 318 million cubic meters. In addition, the presence of the dams will free at least 12 urban villages in Jakarta from flooding due to water runoff from Bogor.
Jokowi added that Jakarta will be able to handle flood better if Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono immediately resume the normalization program of 13 rivers, which was stopped during the era of the previous governor, Anies Baswedan.
"Added with the completion of the canal from Ciliwung to BKT, which is now still in the process of land acquisition and is hoped to finish by March, this will lower the number of many areas that are usually inundated [by floodwater]," Jokowi emphasized.
The Ciawi Dam and Sukamahi Dam are one of Jokowi's initiatives to tackle flooding in the capital city due to water runoff from Bogor. Jokowi had discussed the construction project since he served in Jakarta. The construction then started in 2016 with a total budget of Rp1.3 trillion.
