Police to Oversee 213 Churches in Tangerang During Christmas

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tangerang City Metro Police Chief Commissioner Zain Dwi Nugroho said the police were ready to secure 213 churches in Tangerang during the 2022 Christmas celebrations.
"For church security activities, there are 213 out of 245 churches under the jurisdiction of the Tangerang City Metro Police the activities vary and the times are different, of course, it needs to be coordinated and sufficiently organised," he said on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
Zain stated that his group have carried out a security assessment at each church, to know the situation of the church, entry and exit routes, church mass schedules, capacity, provided security in facilities and infrastructure, CCTV, metal detectors and other equipment in keeping safety and anticipating an upsurge in COVID-19.
Zain also explained, his group would implement a security pattern of 4 rings (security area), namely Ring 1 for sites of worship, Ring 2 for courtyards and fences, Ring 3 outside the location of the church perimeter and Ring 4 for the community/people outside the church.
To ensure safety during Christmas celebrations, Zain examined the readiness of church security in several places previously on Wednesday, such as the Santo Agustinus Jatiuwung Church, Santa Maria Tangerang Church, Tangerang City posyan, Santa Maria pospam, Alam Sutera pospam, and pospam in Rest Area km 14.
"We observe and evaluate the security system, along with SOP for security and the placement of personnel in carrying out security at the church, as well as infrastructure and health programs that have already been provided," said Zain.
Tangerang City Metro Police Establishes 10 Security Posts
The Tangerang City Metro Police established 10 posts, namely security posts (Pospam), service posts (Posyan) and Monitoring Posts at several vulnerable point locations.
According to Zain, the core of security during operation Lilin 2022 is the activity of ensuring security during Christmas church mass which will be held on December 23 to 25 and December 31 2022 as well as January 1 2023, along with securing the 2023 New Year's celebrations for homecoming (mudik), recreation locations, and location of entertainment and New Year's Eve celebration.
"I hope that these two security activities can be carried out properly. Learning from previous incidents, potential vulnerabilities need to be anticipated and aware of. Therefore, we request cooperation and support for the police cannot work alone," said Zain.
