TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One hundred North Jakarta residents have registered to get their tattoos removed for free. North Jakarta Mayor Ali Maulana Haki said that the activity will be held routinely.
"We will carry out this activity on an ongoing basis," he said in a written statement, Monday, December 19.
Today Ali inspected the tattoo removal program on the 2nd floor of the Mayor's office. The event will last two days until Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
This activity was initiated by Baznas Bazis in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of North Jakarta.
Ali hopes North Jakarta residents will take advantage of the service. Some he said, are doing it for religious reasons while others are doing it to "erase their old memories from the time they got the tattoos."
The tattoo removal uses a laser technique, which cannot be done only once. According to Ali, it takes about four or six repetitions, depending on the thickness of the tattoo ink.
"I got this tattoo on my chest in 2014. When I got tattooed it didn't hurt that much, but the removal it hurt more," said Abdul from Rawa Badak Selatan, who said he had tried this service three times.
