TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurants Association (PHRI) urged the government to issue implementing regulations for the latest Criminal Code Law (KUHP) and called for the government to coordinate with stakeholders to issue rules overseeing raids at hotels.
The move was made in response to the latest Criminal Code Articles 411 and 412, which contain provisions on cohabitation and adultery.
"In all honesty, raids by the public order agency [Satpol PP] and the police always unsettle the hotel industry and discomfort our guests. Because [the raids] usually arrive with a whole squad and bring the media," said PHRI deputy Maulana Yusran in a hearing with Commission X of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
Therefore, Maulana explained that the hotel associations had to make an MoU concerning raids with the Police every year.
Maulana admitted that he was concerned when the new Criminal Code was enacted on December 6, 2022. Negative responses and concerns were raised by countries that become the target market for PHRI.
Maulana also hoped that the government can prove that there is nothing to worry about from the enactment of the new Criminal Code, just as the government said before the enactment. "Sooner or later, the dynamics of the negative responses from our target market countries can harm the tourism sector," Maulana said.
"It is necessary to make clear rules governing raid patterns in hotels. Especially those related to adultery and cohabitation," Maulana asserted.
