TEMPO.CO, Blitar - Blitar Mayor Santoso and his wife were tied and robbed at their official house in the early hours of Monday, December 12, 2022, Blitar Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Argowiyono confirmed the report. The mayor and his wife were held captive and threatened by the robbers.
Argowiyono said Santoso and his wife were not seriously injured, but both were traumatized by the incident.
"The incident occurred at dawn, at around 3:00 to 4:00 a.m. in the morning, there were reports of a robbery at the official residence of the Blitar Mayor," said Argowiyono in Blitar on Monday, December 12, 2022.
According to Argowiyono, the group of either four to five people managed to tie up three members of security officers from the Blitar Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) before committing the crime.
The robbers took away money and jewelry belonging to the Mayor’s wife with a total value of around Rp400 million. They also destroyed the CCTV decoder installed in the official residence.
In their investigation, the police examined the CCTV footage outside the house which recorded a car with a red license plate, which denotes government-owned vehicles allegedly used by the robbers.
"What appears on the CCTV on the road is a car with a red license plate, but it might be a diversion. It may not the true license plate," said Argowiyono.
The police also received information from witnesses that they saw a minibus entering the official residence of the mayor who was elected in 2020. The police investigation is still ongoing.
"At the time of the incident, all CCTVs were active. The perpetrators reportedly damaged the CCTV decoder and we are still investigating it," the Blitar Police Chief concluded.
