TEMPO.CO, JakartaChief Technology Officer of Indonesia digital wallet company DANA, Norman Sasono, mentions several significant matters that need to be considered in dealing with various financial crimes. One of them is the security system.

"A lot of times, the issues that occurred were not always due to the security system. For example, getting hacked or ransomware or others. Because of protection, we can safely use technology," said Norman at a casual coffee event at DANA Indonesia office on Thursday, November 24, 2022.

Norman mentioned that to anticipate financial crimes, a company can use technology, create a team to protect its system, conduct audits, and carry out mitigation. The system, he said, can always be developed. But to maintain the system, not everyone can do it.

On the other hand, Norman highlighted the problem of social engineering cyber-attacks that affect individuals. Norman stated that humans are the easiest thing to be compromised. "Humans are easier to manipulate. Fooling people is easier than tricking the system. So, what happens a lot and based on the trends we see, the issue is there," Norman said.

Therefore, Norman invites all respective stakeholders to improve financial literacy. This can be done in various ways and needs to be built together so that Indonesians are not easily exposed to social engineering.

"Not only in DANA, in the e-commerce ecosystem, logistics, fintech, even education is also now all digital," Norman added. If humans are easily exposed to social engineering, it will be useless even though the system is secure.

Based on internal data, the number of complaints from DANA users who fall into the category of victims of fraud is around 30 percent. They make complaints, such as the DANA balance being lost. However, after investigation, most victims were tricked into sending their OTP code to a perpetrator who claims to be a part of the DANA team.
