TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Zainul Arifin, the legal representative of 230 victims of the Net89 trading bot, on Monday asserted that public figures who participate in promoting the investment scheme can be entangled in criminal offense. His statement quips the involvement of renowned social media figures Atta Halilintar and Taqy Malik
"Whether it can be subject to an [criminal offense] or not, in our opinion, it can be imposed as Article 5 of TPPU (money laundering) exists," said Zainul Arifin when met at the office of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) on November 7.
Victims of trading robot Net89 previously filed a police complaint against 134 people suspected of being involved in fraudulent investment practices. Five of them are public figures who had allegedly passively promoted the Net89 trading bot.
"Passive means that they might not know the flow of funds. However, because it is related to ITE, it can be applied to people who promote it," said Zainul.
Currently, Zainul said his clients are waiting for the development of the Police inquiry before taking the next step in the case.
