3 Drug Dealers Busted for Supplying 112 Kilograms of Marijuana for New Year's Eve

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Police Commissioner Endra Zulpan, said that a number marijuana dealers from the Java-Sumatra network have been arrested. According to him, they were about to distribute 112 kilograms of marijuana for the New Year's Eve in the Jakarta region.
"The marijuana was planned to be circulated during New Year's Eve," He said at the Metro Jaya office, Wednesday, November 2, 2022.
The arrest was a follow up from public information that indicates there is a marijuana circulation in the Jakarta area. Sub Directorate I Unit II of the Drug Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police investigated as far as Mandailing Natal in North Sumatra, which is suspected as the initial place for the marijuana shipments.
Police arrested three suspects named in initials, RP (Still underage), RS (19 years old), and RD (18 years old) on Saturday, October 20, 2022. The police also searched and found 112-kilogram marijuana in a white Toyota Avanza car, ready to be distributed.
"The suspects received wages from a wanted person with the initials UM. The pursuit is still being carried out," said Zulpan.
He mentioned that the suspect was promised Rp3 million per person to deliver the prohibited goods. Along with a bonus of one kilogram of marijuana if managed to be delivered to the destination.
The Mastermind Behind the Suspects
Zulpan revealed that the initials UM was the operator who directed the suspects to pick up the ordered goods. "The item has been packaged by UM and the suspect was only required to pick it up. We will develop an investigation to the origin and where this product came from," he said.
The suspects have said that this is their first time operating. The police also confirmed that they were drug users.
Regarding the order for 112 kilograms of marijuana, the police are still investigating. "Of course, here we see how prevention can be accomplished by the vice division concerning the dangerous potential if this marijuana type of narcotics is successfully circulated," said Zulpan.
For the actions of the suspects, under the regulation of the Indonesian law concerning Narcotics, the maximum penalty can be death or life imprisonment and/or imprisonment for a minimum of six years, the maximum imprisonment is 20 years with a fine of Rp10 billion.
