TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Jaya Police confirmed that the cause of the fire that occurred at Terminal 2E of Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Friday morning, October 28, 2022, was caused by a short circuit in the electrical cable.
Head of public relations at the Metro Jaya Police Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan said that the smoke was detected at 6:44 AM Jakarta time as it activated the fire alarm. "After conducting a check, the source of the smoke came from a burning cable near the central air conditioner," Zulpan explained in a statement on Friday, October 28, 2022, as quoted from Antara.
Police officers and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport security unit, as well as firefighters (Damkar), immediately searched for the source of the fire inside the ceiling. The fire was successfully extinguished at 07:18 AM local time.
Police confirmed that it was a pure accident, and does not indicate intentional sabotage. "The burned area is a place of difficult access, so it's purely an accident, it's not sabotaged," said Zulpan.
Jakarta Metro Jaya Police has not been able to determine the cause of the short circuit that resulted in the fire yet. Based on the initial analysis, it was due to the poor installation of cables or damaged cables bitten by rats. "[We're] still looking for the cause in more detail," Zulpan concluded.
