Indonesia, Britain Cooperate to Support FoLU Net Sink 2030 Achievement

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian and British governments signed an agreement on cooperation in the environment and climate, including to support the achievement of net emission absorption in the forestry and land use sector or FoLU Net Sink 2030.
"Through this MoU, the two parties aim to develop stronger friendship, to realize real and effective climate action in the field," Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya said in a statement, Sunday.
The two parties' cooperation was outlined in the MoU inked by Nurbaya and British Minister State for Asia, Energy, Climate and Environment Zac Goldsmith in an event on Saturday.
Nurbaya highlighted that the MoU has three special goals.
The first goal is to promote cooperation which aligns with Indonesia's main goal within the FLEGT UK VPA and Indonesia's ambition to reach FoLU Net Sink by 2030.
The second goal involves promoting Sustainable Forest Management Certification in Indonesia. The third concerns improving collaboration and various best practices to strengthen the capacity of related stakeholders.
After signing the MoU, Nurbaya expects that Indonesia can cooperate with the British government to support the implementation of Indonesia FoLU Net Sink 2030 Operational Plan.
This implementation contributes toward the National Determined Contribution (NDC) achievement, specifically through sustainable forest management, she added.
During the opportunity, Goldsmith praised Indonesia's international leadership within climate and environmental issues. This appreciation is also expressed toward Indonesia's FoLU Net Sink 2030 Operational Plan and target.
He expects that this MoU and his meeting with Nurbaya will strengthen the cooperation with Indonesia in climate change, biodiversity, environmental, and low carbon development .
In addition to Britain, Norway will contribute US$56 million to support the implementation of the FoLU Net Sink 2030 Operational Plan.
This contribution is part of the agreement on results-based contribution for emission reduction that Indonesia and Norway signed on Wednesday.
