Flash Flood in Blitar Forces 465 People to Evacuate

18 October 2022 12:06 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaFlash flood hit Blitar Regency, East Java. The Blitar Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that 13 villages in five sub-districts were affected.

“1,094 families are affected and 465 people are evacuated. The number can increase. This is in Sutojayan,” said Head of Blitar BPBD Ivong Bettryanto as quoted from Antara, Monday, October 17, 2022.

The flood submerged people's homes and public facilities. The bridge access was cut off. The flood water was reported to be at a height of about 1 meter in the Sutojayan District.

The evacuation post has been opened in the hall of the Sutojayan Sub-District. “We have also established a public kitchen. It is located in the Multipurpose Building of Sutojayan Sub-District,” he added.

Apart from residential houses and public facilities, 33 livestock were reportedly swept away by the flood, 2,500 laying hens died, seven cages were damaged, and roads were still inundated.

The BPBD continued to remain vigilant in this disaster. The members also continued to explore the possibility that there were still residents who have not been evacuated to safer places.

“We have mobilized eight rubber boats, we are still looking for residents who are still [in their flooded houses,” Ivong said.

The Blitar BPBD head also said there was no report of fatalities yet.
