TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former West Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Teddy Minahasa was scheduled to be questioned at the Metro Jaya Police today, October 17, 2022. The police had named him a suspect in a drug-related case.
“The examination is planned today at the Metro Jaya Police,” said the National Police’s spokesperson Nurul Azizah in a written message, Monday, October 17, 2022.
Senior Commissioner Endra Zulpan, the head of the police’s public relations unit, on Saturday night, October 15, 2022, said Teddy asked for a postponement of the examination because he wanted to be accompanied by a personal lawyer appointed by his family. Teddy rejected an advocate provided by the police.
“This afternoon, investigators from the drug directorate conducted an examination of Inspector General TM but could not complete it because TM requested it to be postponed to Monday,” said Endra on Saturday night.
Teddy who was newly appointed as East Java Police Chief replacing Inspector General Nico Afinta was arrested on Friday, October 14, 2022, by the National Police's Internal Affairs Division for allegedly selling illegal drugs.
The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo then canceled Teddy’s transfer. Listyo explained that the case began with the case development of illegal drug trafficking. Teddy could possibly face dishonorable dismissal.
Metro Jaya Police Director of Narcotics Investigation Sr. Comr. Mukti Juharsa said the two-star general obtained five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from evidence confiscated by the Bukittinggi Police.
Mukti said Teddy Minahasa claimed that this was his first crime. The profit that was rumored to reach hundreds of millions going into Teddy's pocket has yet to be ascertained. “We're looking into it later,” he said.
